About this jug
Location:
Herenweg, Egmond-Binnen
Netherlands
Long/Lat:
52.60308, 4.65053
Notes: In the summer of 2017, an archaeological survey was carried out along the Herenweg near Egmond-Binnen, between the Waterrijk estate and the Lioba monastery. It has been established that the area has historically (for around a thousand years) formed part of the village of Egmond-Binnen. Like many other places, the Abbey and Egmond-Binnen suffered greatly during the siege of Alkmaar in 1573, when war was raging – the Eighty Years’ War. The inhabitants fled to Alkmaar and the surveyed area became uninhabited. The remains of the rope or line mills found date from the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
