Notes: Archeologie West-Friesland carried out an excavation at Keern 157 in Hoorn in 2018. The origins of the Keern date back to at least the 13th century and possibly as far back as the 12th century. It is an inner dyke between the Oosterpolder and Westerpolder that led to one of the city gates of Hoorn: the Noorderpoort. The Keern therefore served as an access road to the city of Hoorn. Gradually, buildings sprang up along the Keern. An unexpectedly thick layer of flood clay was found beneath the building layer, probably deposited during the severe floods in the early 16th century. In the second half of the 16th century, the first yard structures with embankments, plot boundaries and a ditch were built on top of this layer.
