About this jug

Betsy's Hof, Kennemerstraatweg, Heiloo, Netherlands
Netherlands
Long/Lat:
52.600938, 4.712481
Notes: A house called Ter Coulster already existed on this site in the 12th century. Ter Coulster Castle was destroyed several times, for example in 1517 by the “Gelderse Friezen” led by “Grote Pier” and in 1573 during the siege of Alkmaar.
The castle was demolished in 1788. It had become too expensive to maintain, and the rubble was worth more than leaving the building standing. The rubble from Ter Coulster was used to build or restore various buildings in Alkmaar. The Bartmann jug was found during archaeological research at Betsy’s Hof, Heiloo, in 2008.
