Notes: From 1475 onwards, the buildings of a monastery were erected in the Bangert, a previously undeveloped area between Westerblokker and Zwaag. Bethlehem Monastery ultimately existed for less than 100 years. In 1566, a small group of rebels used force to gain access to the buildings and caused extensive damage. After Hoorn sided with the Prince of Orange in 1572, the management of the monastery's property was transferred to the city. In 1573, the sisters were removed from the monastery, the lands were leased out and one of the buildings was converted into a farmhouse. Archaeological research has been conducted since 2005. Buildings, wells, a bridgehead and even the cemetery have been found. The vast majority of the finds are kitchen and tableware.
