Archaeological Context: Sealed feature: Surface find (including mudlarking)

Notes: This was found while mudlarking not far from the OXO Tower on the Southbank, Central London. It was found in 108 fragments buried close to the surface in one small area of erosion near the river wall. I have subsequently visited the spot several times and only found two additional sherds.

Feature description: The jug is made up of 110 fragments and is approximately 70% complete. The face mask, handle, and three medallions are all present. On each identical medallion is the double-headed imperial eagle of the Holy Roman Empire. The top of the handle has a hole where a metal lid would've attached and the base of the handle where it meets the body has four dimples. Around the back of the jug is the clear impact site from when it first smashed, with spiderweb cracks emanating outwards.
