Netherlands

Archaeological Context: Sealed feature: Sealed feature

Site type: Shipwreck

Notes: A wreck of a 50 metre long wooden seagoing merchant ship was found south of the island of Texel. There are reports of grain and the remains of a jute sack. It is therefore possible that it was a grain ship. After finding the (ship's) bell with SOLI DEO GLORIA and the year 1691 the wreck was named after it. Since the 1980s, however, the wreck has been known as Juffrouw Maria Agnes. The ship is dated to ca.1735. The latest dated objects are a compass bearing the date 1734 and a stave bearing the date 1734.
