Notes: Gloucester, Massachusetts, USA first settled ca. 1623. European fishermen probably were working the waters prior to that date. The harbour bottom consists predominantly of sand and soft clay. At some point during the late 1990's a fisherman pulled the jug up in his net and sold it to a local collector. Since then, it has passed through the hands of multiple collectors and dealers. The original parties have passed on, so more accurate information cannot be found.

Feature description: The surface has been significantly worn due to submersion. A small medallion of a grimacing face is on each "side". The handle terminates in a pronounced rat-tail with 4 deep indentations.
