Notes: In 1980, a shipwreck was found on plot L1 in Southern Flevoland, south of Vogelweg. The ship was explored in 1981 and excavated in 1990. It is a long and narrow ship with a length of 20 meters, a width of 4 meters, and a depth of 1.5 meters. The wood used to build the ship was felled in 1586 AD. The ship must have been put into service shortly thereafter. It sank shortly after 1605 AD, based on the dating of the objects found on board. The ship resembles the typical medieval cog ship design. The ship had a lowerable mast. Combined with the narrow width of the vessel, this could indicate that the ship sailed on inland waterways as well as on the Zuiderzee. A cargo of peat was found in the hold. The maximum load capacity has been calculated at 63 tons. In that loading condition, the peat cargo must have been transported partly as deck cargo. If the peat cargo became wet, the increase in weight would cause the ship to sink. That is therefore the probable cause of the shipwreck. Another interesting aspect of the ship is its complete equipment and inventory. Among other things, a firebox with tiles and the accompanying stoking tools and cooking utensils were found. A notable find was a stoneware jug dated 1600, made by Jan Emens Mennicken from Raeren.
