About this jug

Westerdijk 137, 1621 LB Hoorn,
Netherlands

Notes: In 2019, Archeologie West-Friesland carried out an archaeological excavation on the plots Westerdijk 137-149 and Geldersesteeg 2-4 in the municipality of Hoorn. The Westerdijk within the city of Hoorn is part of the West Frisian Omringdijk, which dates from around 1250. Major storm surges, such as the Marcellus flood of 1375, washed away dykes and land. New dykes, such as the Westerdijk, were then constructed further inland.
In the second half of the 16th century, a tanner was active at the location under investigation, with a workshop next to the house.
