Notes: The notarial archives of the city of Alkmaar mention the construction of a corn mill on the site where the bartmann jug was found as early as 1574. A predecessor of this corn mill had been blown over in 1574. The wood from the blown-down corn mill was reused in the construction of a farmhouse right next to the mill. This reused wood is still present in the farmhouse called “Het Molenhuis” (The Mill House). The second corn mill was lost to fire in 1927. The large amount of pottery found suggests that there was a drinking establishment here.
